Proximity fuzes serve as an efficient alternative for PD (point detonation) fuzes. One complete round of a proximity fuze causes the same lethality effect of three complete round with PD fuzes. They are pay load at a pre-determined height above the target to achieve maximum target damage.
IEI proximity fuze M230-A is suitable for artillery shells from 105 to 203 mm.
Other types of proximity fuzes are M122-K designed to be used for 122 mm rocket also M120 for mortars with point detonating back up. This type of fuze operates in the UHF range and employs advanced features such as frequency agility to ensure consistent burst height and high immunity against enemy jamming action.
A selector switch is provided to select between proximity and impact function.
Proximity action is ensured in conditions where the target area covered with snow or soft ground such as mud or swamp.In these conditions, effectiveness of PD fuzes are greatly diminished or even fail. The fuzes are equipped with wind driven turbine generators and selectable delay time. Saving of handling and transport of ammunition, less gun barrel erosion and shorter firing time are some advantages of utilizing proximity fuze. They are economical and reliable and have state- of- the art electronic circuitry components, safe operation and long shelf life.
Quality Control & Standard
Fuzes are checked by electrical and mechanical tests at each stage of production and acceptance tests which include MIL- STD factory tests and firing trials under severe conditions.
